The Biggest AR Ever: NEMO OMEN .458 Winchester Magnum

Quote:
Tipping the scales at 12.4 pounds, this is no small rifle. Then again, when shot-putting 500-grain slugs downrange at 2,090 fps, I am not a fan of light rifles anyway. More importantly, this rifle balances well. Even with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of Federal 500- grain Fusion and an Aimpoint PRO atop for a total combined weight of 14.5 pounds, it still balances comfortably and directly in the hands.

I started to get phat to build me one in 458 socom, but got to thinking if I want to kill something big I have the 50bmg... I ended up going with the 300 blackout. Haven't shot it yet but the info I have read about it is pretty impressive.

I'd take one.
Not exactly practical - but probably a hell of a lot of fun!!
And a little "out of my league" on price though…
By the way, this is my first HPT post with my new iPhone 6 Plus!!
Just had to try it out…

Not necessarily the .458, but I could go for something like .243 win, .270 win, or 7 mag, even maybe 300 WM. I'm just not a fan of the .223 or 308 chambering, not enough for my taste.

You don't like .308? That's a pretty effective round for reach out and play tag. Not quite a .338 Lapua or a 7mm Mag... but still a respectable round. I'd take it over .243.

Both remain super sonic out to about 1100 meters. The .308 will drop a touch more but still be carrying a fair amount more energy at that max rang.
.243 at 1000 meters, 338 ft/lbs
.308 at 1000 meters, 430 ft/lbs
7mm mag @ 1000, 877 ft/lbs
338 Lapua@ 1000, 1407 ft/lbs

And the Lapua stays Super Sonic out to 1700 meters.

But then, right now my only "modern" rifle is my Winny 94, and it's old school. And I do like 7mm mag. If I was to go down that
road again, it'd probly be a Weatherby bolt

I'd like something in a .338 Lapua some day but our range only goes out to 500 yards.

A good scope on a .338 Lapua and I could pick off golfers at a mile and a half.

Pretty neat idea, wonder how long it will take the ATF to determine it is a DD?
