I am new to the forum and I have been lurking and seeing all the information on the site. So this is my first post and I hope someone can help me with this problem. I was out shooting today and I noticed that the slide did not lock back after the last shot. I dropped the magazine out and moved the slide forward. Im not really sure why but I decided to shake it and when I did there was a rattle that sounded like it was in the slide. Any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks,

Eric

I'm not sure, but I think every hi-Point will rattle some, Did you just shoot one mag?

I have shot 250 rounds through it but it sounded like something was loose and rattling inside. I shot approximately 30 rounds through it tonight before it started.

Grab the slide with one hand and hold the grip with the other hand. See how "loose" the slide is by moving it side to side.
I am sure it's a fairly loose fit, and will move some.
What happens if you grab it around the slide and frame, in front of the trigger and shake it?
If it still rattles, I'd remove the slide and see if there is anything obvious going on.
I am guessing it's just the slide moving on the frame.

There might be a problem with the last round thing-a-ma-bob. Look that the part list, and watch a YouTube video about taking it apart. Maybe you can fix it, maybe it will have to go back to MoM.

Here is your part list. http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/Hi-Poin ... _CF380.pdf

When I grab the slide and move it side to side there is very little movement. When I grab around the slide and the frame there is a little click but not the same noise. The noise I heard was like there were little pebbles inside.

Part 33 is the last round hold open. Should be able to see it under the left grip panel. If the spring cane off it would make noise and not lock the slide open on the last round.

There is a drop safety bar in the pistol that will make a rattling noise when the pistol is shook... it may be that is what you are hearing.

As far as the slide not locking back, is this a new pistol? If so running some rounds through it may help, or try a different brand of ammo and see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes. it is a new pistol and I did use a really cheap ammo that I probably will not use again. Checked the springs under both grips and all is intact. the noise seems to be coming from the back of the slide. I will take it apart this evening to see what I can locate there.

Back sounds like the safety bar. Call mom and see what they say.

Mornin Techer40,
Nother guy asked the same question and I made the "clicky" for him and he said yep, it's the same. If yours is too, then it's normal.

Clicky
